THERE IS SOMETHING IN EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU   September 5, 2010 jrdg (silsbee) This is a great machine and it confounds me why Melitta discontinued it production. The fact that there is such a strong demand for aftermarket parts should tell them that people want to keep their Mill and Brews alive. I have had mine since 2004 and am coming to the time when I will need to replace. The only thing I would want to replace the MEMB1 with is the MEMB2, but they never made it. The black model was best ... a sleek yet simple, not overloaded with gadgetry or cosmetic embellishments. The only design flaw was the mechanical clasp for the top lid. Nevertheless, the MEMB1 Melitta Mill and Brew has stood the test of time--it is a classic in both form and function. On top of that it brews a great cup of coffee, which is the point after all. Amazon ought to use it's retail savvy and negotiate with the manufacturer the bring it back and be the exclusive on-line retailer. I HAVE REPLACED THE LID ONCE IN ALL THE YEARS OF OPERATION. I DECIDE I NEEDED TO BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR BACKUP, BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ONE. SO, I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT MELITTA TO SEE IF I COULD PURCHASE ONE DIRECT. I WAS TOLD THAT MEMB1 IS DISCONTINUED AND REPLACED WITH THAT NEW RADIO COFFEEMAKER. I PURCHASED THE NEW MODEL AND LOW AND BEHOLD IT WILL NOT WORK IN MY AREA, DUE TO THE MOUNTAIN RANGE. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF IT PICKS UP A RADIO SIGNAL AND THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO BYPASS THIS SYSTEM TO MAKE COFFEEMAKER WORK. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD TO RETURN IT TO THE ONLINE STORE. PLEASE BRING THIS BACK!   May 9, 2010 SHARON SLATTERY (MILWAUKEE, WISC) At least once every day this coffeemaker brings me joy. I have had it since February of 2008. The coffee is always excellent. I enjoy the smell and sound of the beans grinding and the aroma if fresh coffee brewing is just nectar to the soul. The permanent filter is easy to deal with and very efficient..just a good rinse in hot water and it is ready to go! Once a week I put the filter,pot and the basket that holds the filter right in the dishwasher --how easy can it be? The brew time is great and the end result is just the best coffee in the world. I dont know why this is temporarily out of stock but I hope they havent stopped making it--I was wanting to buy another now just to have on hand in case... Unfortunately, my filter basket screen started to separate from the plastic allowing grounds to flow into the coffee. Melitta has not only discontinued this item (model MEMB1), but it has made parts unavailable. However, I bought their new model, ME1MSB, which is similar to the old, but with more complex electronics and a weather radio. Lo and behold, the filter basket in the new model is EXACTLY THE SAME as it was in the old model! As for the new model, electronics are too complex, weather radio not only doesn't work, it connects to MSNDirect which is stopping service in 2012. As for the new model's coffee brewing design, it's still good. Meliita MEMB1   December 20, 2009 Mike103 (Evansville, IN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful Great Coffee(!!!) from this most reasonably priced machine...however, this is my second macahine and, like the first, the latch broke forcing me to get creative with ways to hold down the cover while it grinds using the timer mode...in both cases the latch lasted about a year maybe 18 months,,,clever way to get you you to buy a new one.
