| (Requires windows media player.) | Versatile Design for Sliding and Hinged Doors Whether you use the Security Bar for sliding-door or hinged-door applications, you can rest assured that the bar's design features are optimized to keep you and your family safe. For hinged doors, the bar features a pivoting ball joint that keeps it in full contact with the floor, providing a more stable and secure connection. Simply place the padded foot against your floor, and wedge the specially designed non-marring yoke beneath your door handle. The foot will give the bar a tight grip against your floor, and because both the foot and the yoke are padded, your floor and door handle will remain unmarred, even with everyday use. To secure a sliding door, simply turn the bar on its side, remove the yoke by pulling out the pin, and adjust the bar to the length of your door. Once properly adjusted, the bar will create a firm seating between the door and jamb, ensuring that no one can enter the door from the outside. The Dual Function Security Bar is designed to fit most sliding doors. Master Lock Durability The Dual Function Security Bar is made of thick, 20-gauge steel for strength. Backed by Master Lock's reputation for security and durability, the bar can withstand over 350 pounds of force. It is backed by a lifetime guarantee. security purposes June 22, 2010 D. Thompson My boyfriend was out of town for 2 weeks and I don't care for firearms so I purchased this item for added security on my doors. I felt very secure and got a good nights sleep due to that fact. I purchased 2 of these security bars and use them even when he is home.
Apartment Door-Security Bar May 26, 2010 Maxxey (Pittsburgh) This is a good product and at a good price. It eliminates "maintenance" from arbitrarily entering your apartment (while you're home) without your knowledge or prior notice. It is simple to put in place and equally simple to remove. It functions as designed.
It's "alright"... May 25, 2010 Brian Sr. (Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been having problems with neighbors lately in our apartment building, and since we share a balcony we've had issues with them crossing over onto our side, and their kids have made multiple attempts to see and enter our apartment. The parents encourage this, and have also come over in an attempt to peer in.
So, my answer was to get this security bar. It's basic, and good enough. Nothing special, honestly. I knew it was trouble when the package arrived with the box being much bigger than the product, and I heard it rattling around. It's metal, so no real need for padding, but a more properly sized box would've been nice. There wasn't even a copy of the shipping invoice in it, and the tape on the top was mostly ripped/cut.
The product itself is fine. The length is a little short. If someone were able to force the door open, a smaller person would be able to squeeze through. I don't see any exact length information listed in the product description, and based the length off of the example image against the door. It's perfect for a door, but can be short for a large sliding glass door.
I think it'll be good enough. Better than nothing!
Great if all you need the the illusion of safety... May 14, 2010 A. R. Torres (Miami, FL) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I tested this product as soon as it arrived, I have tile floor and heavyduty solid wood door, the device was disabled (it broke) after just merely pushing on the door. The steel notch mechanism to adjust height is the products biggest weakness. This product is going back to amazon.
Don't assume that 15"-18" (foot-to-base) will work on your door April 23, 2010 AJ CA (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On hardwood floors, I have to center the foot not much beyond 12" from the door-base or it slides easily. This is with doorknobs 36" above the floor, which seems standard. The manual recommends 15" to 18" and I don't know what flooring or knob-height they based that on. I could see it losing its floor-grip if a door had too much horizontal play and someone shook it. Snug it up as much as possible.
I'd be more reassured if the doorknob fork wasn't made of hollowed plastic, though it has a vertical rib in line with the force. I wouldn't trust my life to this stopping an intruder, but they'd have to create noise trying to dislodge it. Anything to slow them down is better than nothing.
