Newbie and a tough application August 13, 2010 JT Justman I bought this to nail 5/16 James Hardie fiber cement products. I had never done a siding job or used a nailer before. The gun worked great for my 7/16 OSB sheathing. Very reliable. Occasionally it would over-drive if it hit a particularly soft spot but I don't think there's anything for that. However it had more trouble in the Hardie. Now, part of this may be the nails I used. The home improvement guys were out of the Bostitch nails so I bought Senco galvanized ring-shank nails. The nailing was a lot less consistent, whatever I did with the air pressure. Lots of under-driven and buckled nails. Also, many of the nails the wire would get shot with the nail, and stick out the top of the nail. Not the end of the world but more work to clean up and not as clean looking. Like I said, your results might be better with different nails and materials. I wish I'd been able to try a couple different kinds of nails or talk to someone with experience in my particular application. I also never got around to calling Bostitch support about it as I'm a weekender.
However, it has been very reliable, and is extremely easy to use, and so for most applications I would recommend it heartily.
Nailer Failed Quickly August 10, 2010 NorthernProducer (TN USA) I purchased this nailer primarily because of the good reviews. After receiving it yesterday, I installed the air chuck and oiled the unit per the instructions. I prepared my project this morning and began using the new nailer, but after shooting 20 nails, the unit failed with the driver unit (plunger) stuck in the down position. I called Stanley-Bostitch Tech Support and they said the o-ring in the trigger valve failed and was probably because Amazon had it on the shelf too long which caused the o-ring to dry out!!! I cannot believe that is what caused the failure...though I did notice the unit is now made in Taiwan instead of the US plant in Indiana. They are shipping the new trigger valve today and now my project has to wait for parts that I hope will remedy the problem. Having to repair a new nailer is more than disappointing.
Takes a third of the time of hand nailing. August 5, 2010 J. Kollasch (Vadnais Heights, MN) Anytime I can make my life easier by purchasing a tool I'm all for it. When we decided to re-side our house this summer with fiber-cement siding it looked like we were going to be hand nailing everything to the house, that didn't make us look forward to the job. Luckily we stumbled upon yet another Bostich tool that made the job ten times easier. Owning their finish, roofing, and framing nailers already there wasn't much of a decision on which brand we were going to work with. Selling tools in a chain home-improvement store had given me a wide variety of brands but I've always trusted Bostich to be one of the better tools for the money.
This gun works really well for fiber cement siding. It doesn't crack the siding and holds it firmly to the studs. We had a small problem adjusting the depth at first and the nail heads were still a bit further out then we wanted (easily fixed by manually pounding them in with a hammer.) Once we got the depth adjustment set just right the nails went in perfectly. I seriously don't know how people would put up siding without this tool, just looking at a hammer and our half finished house gives me the heebie-jeebies. We have a large compressor but since these guns operate on short bursts of air you can use them on some of the smaller compressors without much waiting in between shots. The only complaint I have is that we needed a little bit longer nail (maybe 3") for some of our trim boards and had to pound them in by hand, but otherwise this gun has been perfect to use with out 2-1/2" stainless nails.
Nail me to the wall January 28, 2010 Kevin Grundy (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this gun to install Hardie cement siding on my house. I am using stainless steel ring-shank coiled nails. This gun works great and has no issue putting nails in where there are needed. The tip does not mar the siding and allows for precise location of nails. It works great and I have no issues with this gun. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a coil siding nailer.
Parts and Repair December 14, 2009 Brandon Adam Swenson (UT) We love this Bostitch nailer, especially the magnesium housing because it is so strong and durable. I read another review on here about the nails on this being available almost everywhere and I would have to agree, whether your going to your local hardware store or doing the google search online for Bostitch parts, your sure to find something on this one, so yes it is popular and well known. Another good point I would like to mention, is we handle Bostitch parts repair and when handling this nailer, I would have to see it was a good job and very satisfying. Everything went smoothly and for that I highly recommend the N66C-1 Nailer from Bostitch.
Brandon
